Annu Rani Brussels Diamond League
Indian javelin thrower Annu Rani’s performance in the women’s javelin throw event at the Brussels Diamond League Meeting was less than impressive. The 31-year-old national record holder finished in seventh place with a best throw of 57.74m. This marks another disappointing result in a season where she has struggled to breach the 60m mark, with her best throw of 59.24m achieved during the Federation Cup in May.

Earlier this month, Annu Rani faced another setback when she failed to qualify for the World Athletics Championship women’s javelin throw event final, finishing 11th in Group B during the qualifying rounds. Her performance in Brussels began with a 57.05m throw, followed by a foul in her second attempt, and a 56.01m throw in her third attempt. It’s worth noting that her national record stands at an impressive 63.82m, a feat she achieved last year.
In the Brussels Diamond League event, the top position was secured by the reigning world champion, Haruka Kitaguchi of Japan, who managed a remarkable throw of 67.38m. Following her was Victoria Hudson from Austria in second place with a throw of 64.65m, and Līna Muze-Sirma from Latvia in third place with a throw of 63m.
Annu Rani’s history in the Diamond League Meetings includes a seventh-place finish in Lausanne in 2019, where she recorded a throw of 59.35m. Unfortunately, her recent struggles have extended to the World Championships as well, where she failed to qualify for the final round with a throw of 57.05m in the qualification round.
